Dr. Misti Raman was born and raised in Columbia, SC where she currently resides with her husband of seven years, Jim, and her two perfect little angels, Lexi (4 y/o) and Jimmy (3 y/o). Misti graduated with honors from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelors degree in Biology before moving on to dental school at the Medical University of South Carolina's College of Dental Medicine.  In 2005 Misti received her DMD degree from MUSC and has been in private practice ever since.  Dr. Raman is the owner of a thriving cosmetic and family dental practice where she is blessed to be able to touch the lives of over 2,000 patients each year.

At an early age Misti was bitten by the bug of philanthropy. In her teens she became actively involved with the Special Olympics, the transition school for handicapped children, and began volunteering for the VA hospital for retired veterans. Misti went on to write an anti-drug and alcohol rap song (which holds its own US patent) and traveled to local elementary school's "Just Say No" assemblies educating children on the effects of drug and alcohol abuse.

Misti began competing in pageantry while in high school which further escalated her community outreach and involvement in charitable organizations. Misti competed for about 10 years, winning more than 100 titles. While pageantry was an important part of her life, Misti's primary focus remained her education. She was named a Columbia College Scholar, Presidential Trustees Scholar, William Bochman Scholar and was awarded the Purple Seal for Outstanding Academic Excellence. Misti was even presented with a piece of the Berlin Wall by Senator Joe Wilson for having the highest GPA in World History. 

Misti is a former aerobics instructor, water safety instructor and continues to be an avid runner and fitness enthusiast.  While in dental school, Dr. Raman and her husband owned and operated six retail businesses, 3 of which were nutrition stores. Her interest in health and wellness led her to enter and win many fitness competitions including being named the 2002 NPC Miss S.C. Overall Figure Champion. 

Being crowned Mrs. Galaxy has allowed Misti to serve as a role model for women hoping to balance marriage, family and a successful career. Moreover it has given her the opportunity to bring public awareness to dental health issues and to expand her philanthropic efforts.  Dr. Raman volunteers for the South Carolina Family Services dental clinic and donates dental supplies to local nursing homes, church mission trips, Carolina Children's Home, Palmetto Health Children's Hospital, local women's shelters, the Oliver Gospel Mission and the SC department of Corrections. Misti is also the co-founder of the Midlands SC chapter of Smile for a Lifetime, an organization that creates self confidence, increases emotional well being and inspires hope in the lives of underprivileged children by providing free dental and orthodontic care.

Dentistry has allowed Misti to channel a lifetime of energy into something that is meaningful and worthwhile. The Smile for a Lifetime foundation has given her the ability to change the life of a child through the gift of a smile. Winning the crown of Mrs. Galaxy has given Misti an unparalleled opportunity for community service, public outreach, and to accelerate the development of charitable causes close to her heart.
